Correction to WMX Class Eligibility Requirements

It was the intent with the issuance of the 2024 AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship Supplement Rules to allow AMA professional licensed riders who otherwise met the qualifications of Section A.2. a. to compete in the WMX class, as well as the Open Pro Sport and 250 Pro Sport classes, if otherwise eligible.  Providing opportunities for women to compete at the highest level of competition with other women was the goal of the new Women’s Motocross Championship. 

Unfortunately, in drafting the 2024 AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship Supplement Rules, an oversight was made by not modifying Section A.2.a. accordingly.  To correct the matter, the following change is made:

2. The following professional licensed racers (Pro Motocross or Pro Supercross) ARE eligible to participate in the National program, subject to the following:

a. Racers competing in the Final 40 in Pro Motocross (250 or 450 class) in no more than 3 Pro Motocross events per year in the current or previous year, are eligible to compete in the Open Pro Sport, 250 Pro Sport and WMX classes ONLY.

b. Racers who have not competed in the Final 40 in Pro Motocross, Pro Supercross, FIM MXGP or MX2 Grand Prix in the current or previous year, are eligible for all classes (unless otherwise ineligible).

c. Racers who earned an AMA professional point in any year are not eligible for any “B”, “C”, or “Sportsman” class, i.e., College (18-24), Vet 30+ or Senior 45+ class. To verify a result, visit The Vault; Racers listed in The Vault who have earned a professional point are not eligible to compete in these classes. vault.racerxonline.com.

d. The eligibility to compete by any foreign or non-US citizen holding a professional license in any country other than the U.S., is subject to the sole discretion of AMA pursuant to Section A.11 below.
